New Year's Day robber convicted, faces life in prison

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 29-year-old Jacksonville man was convicted Wednesday evening on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On New Year's Day 2011, Marguiste McDonald robbed a man at the Shell gas station on Ramona Boulevard. McDonald was parked at a gas pump when he saw the victim and demanded the man give him $5 for gas.

As the victim opened his wallet, McDonald fired a shot into the air and demanded all of the victim's money. McDonald then fled the area with $200 in cash.

Hours later, the victim spotted McDonald at another gas station and called 911. McDonald was then arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

McDonald has a 2004 felony conviction for sale of cocaine. He faces up to life in prison.

He will be sentenced the week of April 30.
