JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 3-year-old girl was injured and a 31-year-old man was killed in two separate drive-by shootings over the weekend. No one has been arrested for either of the shootings.
These was just the latest of five drive-by shootings over the last two weeks that injured or killed someone in Jacksonville. Two of the shootings injured children.
People say its important for witnesses to come forward because sometimes the only suspect information police have comes in tips from the public.
"I think it is getting crazier. Crazier and crazier.," said Terry Blawn, who has lived for 15 years near Sunday night's shooting on Mar Vic Lane, off Biscayne Boulevard off Dunn Avenue.
Police say after Walter Nicholson II was shot in the road, witnesses saw a silver or grey vehicle leave the scene.
Nicholson's death was the second drive by shooting of the weekend.. Friday night, a 3-year-old girl was shot in the foot while sitting on the couch in her own home on bishop lane. A total of 11 bullets hit her house.
These shooting comes just a week and a half after a 5-year-old boy was grazed in the head by a bullet that came flying through his house in Northwest Jacksonville.
People have been hurt or killed in five drive-by shootings in Jacksonville since December 12, when five people were shot in front of a convenience store in the Newtown neighborhood of Northwest Jacksonville.
Channel 4's crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson says drive-bys are not usually random, and they're often gang related.
"You come over to my area and you're selling drugs, you're slinging drugs in my area, and you know you're forbidden to do that, or you're committing crimes and that's all they know and interfering with my business, so they're going to make a point," Jefferson said.
Jefferson he says the only way to put a stop to territorial crimes Is with the community's help.
"We're just in a society that appears to not care about the value of a human life and that culture has to change," Jefferson said.
Investigators say something as simple as a color of a vehicle leaving the scene of a shooting can give investigators a starting point.
