Osceola County deputy struck at DUI checkpoint

Deputy shoots at suspect driver

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – About midnight Sunday, Osceola County Sheriff's deputies were conducting a safety and DUI sobriety checkpoint in Osceola County when a motorist fled through the checkpoint and struck a deputy with his vehicle, officials said.

The deputy was able to pull his gun and fired, striking the vehicle multiple times, officials said.

Deputies stopped 51-year-old Donald Geraghty on Canoe Creek Creek Road in St. Cloud, officials said.

Officials said Geragty ried to run but was caught by deputies with the assistance of the K-9 Unit.

The deputy was transported to Osceola Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Early Sunday morning, Geraghty, was released from the hospital and booked into the Osceola County Jail, deputies said.

Geraghty was driving with a suspended license, deputies said.

Deputies said Geraghty was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, as well as, fleeing and eluding.
