JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 41-year-old man who stepped into St. Augustine Road after a pickup truck truck passed Friday night was struck by a utility trailer the vehicle was pulling.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the pickup was southbound about 7:30 p.m. and the pedestrian, identified as Jeffrey Hartley, was standing by the curb. Police say Hartley stepped out as the pickup passed and was struck by a portion of the trailer.

Hartley was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with live-threatening injuries. He died at 2:47 p.m. Saturday.
Police said there were indications that the victim was intoxicated.
