JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 32-year-old woman died and another woman was taken to the hospital when their car rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the Westside on Monday Night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Miranda Cantrell was driving a Kia west on Normandy Boulevard near Herlong Road about 7:40 p.m. and failed to slow for a big rig in the lane in front of her that was slowing to make a right-hand turn.  Cantrell's vehicle struck the rear of the truck.

Cantrell died at the scene and her 24-year-old passenger, Wendy Vlacos, was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with critical injuries.  Troopers say neither was wearing a seat belt.

Traffic was diverted around the accident until after 10 p.m. while the accident was investigated and cleared.
