JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Five people were shot in the New Town area of Northwest Jacksonville late Wednesday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Fire-Rescue.
Police were called to the shootings at Tyler and Windle streets about 5 p.m.
"I'm surprised. I came running out in the street to find out what happened," resident Patrice Alston said. "(Shootings) don't happen around here."
Rescuers said three victims were taken to a hospital by ambulance and two were driven to a hospital by personal vehicles. The extent of the injuries was not immediately clear.
Late Wednesday night, police confirmed the five were victims of a drive-by shooting, but they didn't have any suspect information.
Channel 4 crime analyst Ken Jefferson said sometimes the best information from witnesses comes after the fact.
"There are those who want to talk, cooperate," Jefferson said. "They just won't do it in the presence of everyone else on the street. They're not going to do that. They're street savvy."
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and could collect a $1,000 reward.
