Police: Brunswick investigation depends on community help

Tip lines in Brunswick give police 30 leads

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Brunswick Police Public Information Officer Todd Rhodes says his agency is tracking every lead they can in the Antonio Santiago murder case.

Those leads came into Glynn County's silent witness hotline and thanks to the Brunswick community, police are hard at work trying to help solve the crime.

"We have to credit the community, because without the community helping us through anonymous tips, people hearing what they hear and people willing to share that type of information, this would be a tougher case," said Rhodes.

It's been a difficult murder case, now stretching past seven days as the community struggles to understand why a small child's life was taken too soon.

Even through the pain, Rhodes said people are stepping up and calling. Brunswick police have received and are investigating 30 tips.

"We have a lieutenant that is assigned to actually retrieve all messages and then do follow up calls regarding any leads," said Rhodes.

So far, Rhodes said the tips have helped Brunswick police arrest six people and find the suspected murder weapon.

Investigators said earlier this week that two of the suspects ditched the weapon in a saltwater pond off Highway 17 in Brunswick.

Rhodes said he couldn't specify any other leads they've received from the tip line or which ones have been helpful.

"I really which I could, but at this point in the investigation, we don't want to do anything or say anything that may jeopardize the case at hand," said Rhodes.

With many of the details still unknown, officers are still urging people to call with information.

"When you call this particular number, you are anonymous," said Rhodes. "We're asking you to just help us, help us to be a help to you, because we're all in the community together."
