Police idenfity man killed breaking up fight

Victim found with stab wounds, lying on Westside road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police say the man stabbed to death while trying to break up a fight between two women early the morning of Dec. 24 was 47-year-old James Duggan.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to Leslie Road on the Westside shortly after midnight.  When they arrived, they found the victim lying in the road with a stab wound to his chest.

Rescue responded and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation revealed two women were involved in a physical altercation, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  The victim was attempting to break up the fight when he was stabbed, police said.

There were several witnesses and a person of interest that were interviewed by detectives.  As of Tuesday, police have not said if there was an arrest, noting this is an active, ongoing investigation.
