JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Investigators continue to look for the thieves who smashed car windows and stole money, cell phones, and prescriptions at two different state parks over the weekend
It happened on Saturday to at least eight vehicles parked at Little Talbot Island and Amelia Island State parks.
"We do have some information, not anything that we can release," said Katie Purcell with Florida Fish and Wildlife Law Enforcement. "We are looking into a couple suspects and trying to track down those leads."
The news was something that startled but didn't surprise park-goer Curtis Siler. Siler frequently fishes at Amelia Island State Park.
"All kinds of people come out here," said Siler.
Channel 4 Crime Analyst Ken Jefferson said in cases like these the crooks can be hard to catch.
"Short of an eyewitness or surveillance, these are difficult," said Jefferson. "Simply because there's not traceable evidence to lead police to suspect."
Jefferson said these car robberies should act as a reminder to everyone that people never can be too secure.
"If it's a smash and grab, they're not going to smash unless they see something they can grab. So you've got to not leave something in plain site for them to grab," said Jefferson.
