JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing in the Wesconnett area that left a man fighting for his life Thursday night.
The man who admits to stabbing the victim during an argument said he reached for his pocketknife in self-defense and doesn't have any regrets.
"I was trying to defend myself that's all," David Ensor said. "And that's when they told me he was her boyfriend or pimp."
JSO officers confirmed that Ensor will not face charges in the stabbing incident, which happened at Catoma and 110th streets.
"There was a white male in his mid 30s who got into an argument and physical confrontation with another white male in his 30s," said Sgt. Jay Farhat. "At some point during that argument, one individual was stabbed. That person was transported to UF (Health) hospital with life-threatening injuries."
Ensor said his attacker left him no choice but to fight back. He said he pulled out his pocketknife and warned the stranger that he wasn't going down without a fight.
"I looked at him and said, 'Dude,' and I held the pocketknife up," Ensor said. "And he came back at me again, lunged at me and swung at me again, and all I could do was try to stick him with the knife."
Police said the victim was quickly taken into surgery but officers were told by doctors that he might not make it out of surgery.
Devin Smith said he witnessed the attack.
"Well there was a girl that had an altercation with another man," Smith said. "And the girl, she told her boyfriend and the boyfriend got really agitated; he got a little hostile and stuff."
Ensor said the girl is a known prostitute who walks up and down 110th Street on the Westside. Police records show the woman has been arrested multiple times for prostitution.
Ensor said a few weeks ago he let the prostitute borrow $40, and for some reason he thinks that upset the prostitute's pimp.
"For someone to accost me, whether it be a pimp, a friend or a prostitute, that shouldn't happen here in Jacksonville," Ensor said. "The streets needs to be cleaned up."
Ensor said he'd like to see more police patrols in his area to cut down on the prostitution and violence.
