Police: UNF student lied about sexual assault

Woman initially said she was attacked in Student Wellness Complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida student who claimed she was sexually assaulted in the women's locker room of the new Student Wellness Complex last week has admitted to police she made up the story, according to university officials.

The University Police Department has charged the 22-year-old with filing a false police report.

Over the last year, several students at UNF have filed false police reports, which served to compound their problems by adding criminal charges, officials said.

For students who are feeling overwhelmed and in need of guidance, the university said it has a number of on-campus resources available to them, including the Counseling Center and the Women's Center.

"We urge any student in need of help to reach out to these or other support programs on or off campus. We are here to help," a university email reads.
