JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Pumpkin Hill wildfire was reported to be 97 percent contained Thursday after receiving 0.3 inches of rainfall as of 11 a.m.
The fire, which consumed 363 acres, was still smoking as of Thursday afternoon, forestry officials said, but the acreage has not increased since Tuesday night.

Officials said there is still one small section of fire edge in the southwest section of the preserve that tractors have not been able to access to dig a containment line.

Florida Forest Service bulldozers have improved the fire lines so that four-wheel-drive engines can drive around the fire and spray water on the hot spots, officials said.
Florida Park Service staff will lead the mop-up operations on the fire until it is contained, officials said. The Florida Forest Service said it will continue to monitor the fire and make daily inspections to determine when 100 percent containment has been achieved.
No homes have been damaged, no structures are currently threatened and no injuries have been reported, officials said.
The fire started Tuesday morning when a 75-acre prescribed burn jumped containment lines.
