JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Residents at an Arlington apartment complex where a 13-year-old boy was shot Sunday said what happened there is out of the ordinary.
One woman who lives at City Ridge Apartments off Arlington Expressway said she heard a gunshot about 6:40 p.m.
"I come back out on the porch," she said. "My daughter said when she looked upstairs, she said, 'Oh, he got shot.' She told me to call 911."
That's when the woman said she knew she had to do something.
"I went in my house and looked to see if I seen anybody running. I saw nobody," she said.
Brenda Jordan came out of her apartment to see what was going on, and she spoke to another boy.
"He told me that his friend had been shot," Jordan said. "I said, 'Well, how? What happened?' And he was all shaken up."
Investigators said the 13-year-old boy was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with injuries that are not life-threatening. Police did not say where the boy was shot, nor did they release any further details.
"I started looking around for bullet holes in the wall," Jordan said. "This is a first-time experience. It's never happened (here)."
Police have not released the name of the boy who was shot.
"I just pray for that young man, that he is going to be OK," Jordan said.
No one answered the door Monday at the home where the shooting happened.
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents in Jacksonville involving young people and guns. So far this year, eight teens have been killed. There has been one arrest following those teen deaths.
Also, last week 12-year-old Sharron Townsend was arrested in the shooting death of a 54-year-old homeless man in a Westside parking lot.
