Roadway improvements begin on Cassat Avenue

Besides paving, the work also includes drainage improvements, curb and gutter repairs, upgrades of traffic signals and highway lighting and related work, officials said.

They said the project should be finished by the spring of 2014. The project contract specifies 245 days to complete the work and allows additional time to be added for weather delays, holidays and unforeseen field conditions.

Lanes and ramps will be closed at night during the construction period, officials said. Single lane closings on Cassat Avenue will be allowed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and ramps at I-10 and Cassat Avenue can be closed with detours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

About 22,500 vehicles in both directions travel along Cassat Avenue within the construction project limits.

JB Coxwell Contracting Inc. of Jacksonville bid $2.9 million to make the improvements for the FDOT.
