Cliff Avril, Percy Harvin honored in Green Cove Springs

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Two members of the Seattle Seahawks were honored in Clay County Tuesday night. Fresh off a Super Bowl victory, the Green Cove Springs City Council honored Clay County native and Seattle Seahawk defensive end Cliff Avril.

The City Council read a proclamation of honor and gave Avril a key to the city. Students from Clay High School were also there for the celebration.

"It's awesome, it's awesome to get the recognition," said Avril.

Avril recently donated a state-of-the-art scoreboard to the school. Throughout the year, Avril organizes football camps for local kids, something he said is one of the best parts of his job.

"That's what it's all about, is showing them that there is a way," Avril said. "I think the biggest thing for me is showing kids that it's cool to be different, think outside the box. If you have a dream, chase it; as long as you have the will, faith, everything will happen."

The Clay County City Council also recognized Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin Tuesday, who owns a home and has family in Clay County.
