Shootout on Interstate 4 ends in fiery crash; 2 injured

Seminole County Fire Rescue investigates

LAKE MARY, Fla. – Seminole County Fire Department is investigating a shooting on Interstate 4 Monday morning that ended with the vehicle igniting.

Fire officials said multiple shots were fired into a vehicle on I-4 east of Lake Mary just before 5 a.m. on Monday, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Police said the driver suffered four gunshot wounds and is in serious condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The passenger was burned and also injured, according to police.

"It was a running gun battle so every shell casing that fell out on the road is part of this scene," said Lake Mary Officer Zach Hudson "So it's a very large scene, a very long scene and one that we're currently processing."

Two lanes on I-4 had to be shut down overnight as the shell casings were searched for.

Authorities are still investigating, with the search for another vehicle, only described as a silver car, ongoing.
