UNION COUNTY, Fla. - An elderly pilot made an emergency landing on State Road 16 at the Bradford-Union county line on Monday afternoon, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the pilot, 83-year-old George Charles Momberg, of Jacksonville, was OK. They said the pilot told them the plane was running out of gas.
Channel 4 was told Momberg put the 1946 Ercoupe 415C down on State Road 16, not far from Florida State Prison.
The plane was moved by authorities to an area away from the road.
Officials say no cars were around, and nobody was injured.
According to police, the pilot was traveling from Alabama and intended to land at Herlong Recreational Airport on the Westside.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified.
It was uncertain if the plane would be refueled or put on a wrecker and hauled away.
