Snake takes down power at St. Johns Town Center

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The lights went out at St. Johns Town Center early Thursday afternoon, forcing most stores to close their doors for about an hour.

The case: a snake that crawled into a power box and shorted out the power.

The power went out shortly after lunch, leaving the shops and traffic signals dark.

The JEA says about 440 businesses and residences were out of electricity until technicians found a snake in a power box and caused a short.

The problem was fixed and everyone and everything -- except the snake -- returned to normal.
