Deputies ask public's help identifying armed robber

Man caught on surveillance video robbing Circle K at gunpoint

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a man seen in surveillance video robbing a convenience store clerk at gunpoint Sunday morning.

The man is seen on video entering the Circle K at the intersection of Schaller Road and Charles Usinas Memorial Highway (State Road 16) at 3:41 a.m., waving a handgun and demanding money from the clerk. Eventually, deputies said, the man left with the cash register drawer and its contents.

Though the man was fully covered, investigators said, the video shows his mannerisms and his voice is heard repeatedly.

"Someone may recognize the clothing that he has on," said News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith. "(Or) his tone of voice, even the language that he uses."

Detectives said they believe the man may be local because he left the store on foot and headed toward Collins Avenue.

Neighbors in the area said they were startled by the robbery.

"Now that I hear about that, I’m going to be a lot more cautious," neighbor Tim McGlynn said. "It’s actually kind of shocking. I’ll keep a lookout now."

Smith advised people to be still and inconspicuous if they're in a public place when a robbery occurs.

"You don't want to make any very sudden movements because you don't know this person with a gun. You don't know what could aggravate him. He could think you're going to grab something and attack him with it," Smith said.

Anyone who may have information is asked to call the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at 904-824-8304 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
