Steve Amos elected FOP president

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Steve Amos has been elected president of the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police.

Amos, who was named interim president after the arrest of Nelson Cuba in the Allied Veterans of the World investigation, out-polled Rob Beers, 1,220-663.

Larry Gayle was elected first vice president. Jimmy Ricks is the second vice president.

Cuba and former FOP vice president Robbie Freitas are awaiting trial in the Internet cafes case.

The FOP negotiates contracts, provides legal counsel, works with the city on benefits, and handles criminal issues and arbitration, among other things.
