JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 16-year-old girl who was in critical condition after being hit by a car earlier this month has been upgraded to good condition.

Orly Ohayon remains at UF Health Jacksonville.

Her mom, 57-year-old Esther Ohayon, was killed in the crash while walking to a Yom Kippur service.

Troopers say Michael Fortunato was driving his 2000 Toyota Camry south on San Jose Boulevard in the center lane as the mother and daughter were walking in a crosswalk and headed toward the Etz Chaim Synagogue.

According to troopers, Fortunato attempted to avoid hitting the two but was unsuccessful as the front of his Camry struck both of them.

A fundraising site was set up for anyone want to make donation in the memory of Ester Ohayon and to help Orly Ohayon. A blog is also being updated about what's being done for Orly.
