JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The atrium of City Hall was filled with dummies Tuesday morning, but not the political kind.
Group classes for hands-on CPR used dummies to teach people how to perform CPR without mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Hand compression is the better method for adults, experts say.
"We want to teach people that mouth to mouth for adults who collapse is not necessary," said Dr. Kelli Wells, director of the Duval County Department of Health. "It's keeping the pulse that is vital and critical until rescue arrives. So we are teaching hands-on CPR so people know how to do it and can save a life on the streets."

Most cardiac arrest incidents happen at home or a place of business, and Wells said learning hands-on CPR could help save the life of a colleague or loved one.
UF Health and the fire department were on hand Tuesday to help with the CPR training at City Hall.
Those involved hope the training will become a citywide initiative.
