Training exercise to take place at Everest University in Orange Park

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – A training exercise is planned for Wednesday afternoon at Everest University in Orange Park involving scenarios such as an active shooter on campus and a hostage situation.

The exercise will involve about 65 people from the Clay County Sheriff's Office SWAT and Negotiations Teams, Orange Park Police and Fire Departments, Clay County Fire Rescue and Everest University staff and students.

It will take place on the university's campus at 805 Wells Road from 2-5 p.m.

The drill will likely attract the attention of residents and motorists in the area. Message boards will be posted along Wells Road to alert people to the fact that it is a drill, not a real scenario.

There will be a large number of vehicles in the college's parking lot and various pieces of equipment moving in and out of the exercise scene, according to the Sheriff's Office.

As with most training exercises, involved personnel will be testing their capabilities based on predetermined scenarios, officials said.

They said planning for the training exercise began three months ago.
