Trooper shoots, kills cow after crash

Two other cows injured in Osteen accident

OSTEEN, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was forced to shoot and kill a cow after the animal was hit by a car on a Central Florida highway.

The crash happened around midnight on State Road 415 near the intersection of Collins Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a woman was driving north when she came upon three cows in the middle of the road.

The driver tried to stop her car when she saw the cattle, but was not able to avoid hitting the animals, according to the FHP.

Troopers said another car came by seconds later and also hit one of the cows.

One cow was so badly injured that the responding trooper shot and killed the animal to prevent further suffering.  Another cow was injured, but is expected to be OK.  The third animal ran off before emergency crews arrived.

Troopers do not know where the cattle came from and were not able to locate their owner.

Neither driver was injured in the accident and troopers said no one will be cited.
