ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a pedestrian struck by a car and killed in Atlantic Beach earlier this month.
State troopers said 68-year-old Michael Wheeler was walking westbound on Mayport Road in the southbound lane at Fairways Villas Lane when a car traveling south hit him about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10.

Wheeler died at the scene from severe head trauma, troopers said.
The driver of the car, 20-year-old Bryce Binkley, of Ponte Vedra Beach, and a passenger in the car were not hurt.
Troopers said charges are pending.
