UPS projects 520K packages shipped back to retailers on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Christmas may be over, but the gift exchanging and returning is just getting started.

UPS projected that on Thursday, more than 520,000 packages would be shipped back to retailers around the country. That means long lines and busy workers at UPS.

UPS employee Robin Schuster says here in Jacksonville, UPS is fully staffed and ready to take on the returning crowds.

"UPS systems are very smart and the packages provide smart information to which we can forecast volume coming through our system, so we staff accordingly, whether it's just a shipped package or a return package," Schuster said.

To save time and money when shipping with UPS, follow these tips:

Have everything handy and ready to go, like payment type and the address of where the package is going.

Talk to the employee who is checking you out. Ask them questions and they should be able to give you helpful information on any pricing and shipping questions.

Finally, make sure you don't forget any receipts or papers needed to get full credit for an exchange or refund.

If you follow these tips, you should be able to get in and out as quickly as possible without any problems.

"We've been experiencing additional packages throughout our system for the past month or so, so we are already prepared to continue that through January," Schuster said.
