JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – The Concerned Veterans for America "Defend Freedom" bus tour of a dozen states makes a stop at Jacksonville Beach on Tuesday, holding a forum for veterans and others to tell their stories and holding a 5K run/walk.
Among the issues to be discussed are the government shutdown's impact on veterans, the backlog of benefit claims at the Veterans Administration, reforming Pentagon spending while tackling the nation's $17 trillion debt, and getting veterans involved in serving America at home.

"Unfortunately, our great nation is failing to live up to its potential, and in particular, failing in its commitment to our veterans," said Pete Hegseth, CEO of CVA. "That's why we're taking our messages to the people, to help build our activist base so that veterans, their families and friends will join us to promote the values that will keep this nation strong, fiscally sound, proud and responsible."
There are two events scheduled during the Jacksonville Beach stop:
- 4 to 6 p.m. - Speaking forum in the Oceanfront Ballroom of the Quality Inn Suites, 11 First St. N.
- 5 to 6 p.m. - Support or Troops 5K Beach Fun Run & Walk - starting at 1617 First St. N.
