JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Families who've lost loved ones in crimes that are still unsolved gathered at the Duval County jail Wednesday to bring attention to the victims' cases and the pain they are enduring as a result.
Relatives and friends of homicide victims Amber Bass and Jillian Berrios were among those taking part in the demonstration.
Bass was shot and killed last summer as she returned home on the Westside. Berrios was shot and killed in October as she sat in a parked car outside the Park Place Apartments on Loring Avenue in Orange Park.
These families and others have held similar demonstrations elsewhere, hoping a passerby will see their signs and come forward with a clue that will lead to arrests.
They explained why they chose the jail Wednesday.
"We have been in other locations. We have gone to the courthouse," said Robin Lezcano, Bass' sister. "Here is to mainly get the inmates talking. Maybe inmates will start talking and give a lead to detectives."
If anyone has information on the shooting deaths of Bass or Berrios, call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
