JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Jacksonville Beach will soon be in the national spotlight. HGTV selected the Paradise Key community in South Jacksonville Beach for the location of its first-ever Smart Home 2013.
The home is built, furnished and ready to go. All it needs is an owner, and one lucky person is going to win the house.
"The overall goal is to save you money at the end of the day so those power bills don't become as alarming as they would in a typical home," said HGTV house planner Jack Thomasson.
Ever worry about forgetting to lock your doors or turn your AC down? The winner of the HGTV smart home won't have to think about that again. With smart technology used throughout the house, the new owner will be able to control lighting, locks and more all through their smartphone from any location.
The smart house also was made from energy efficient and environmentally friendly products.
"Clean is green and in a lot of our building products that have recycled content or were locally sourced," Thomasson said.
"Probably the best feature of this house is that you can win it," Thomasson said.
The public can have a tour of the home beginning April 12. All of that money will go to Beaches Historical Society. For information on purchasing tickets, go to www.beachesmuseum.org.
