Woman charged with leaving baby in hot car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police were called after witnesses say they saw a baby strapped in a car seat in a locked car parked in the sun Monday while the mother was applying for a job.

It happened Monday in the parking lot of the Goodwill store at 4527 Lenox Avenue.
 Arriving officers say the child was sweating inside the car with its windows rolled up and ignition off.

As police were about to break the window, 22-year-old Victoria Baker came running out of the Goodwill store. 

The child was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.

Witnesses told police the child was inside the vehicle 20-30 minutes before police arrived.

Baker was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and booked into the Duval County jail.
