Woman hit by car in Northwest Jacksonville

JSO: Appears to be hit-and-run

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was critically hurt Wednesday night in a possible hit-and-run crash in Northwest Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Just a few minutes before 9 p.m., a woman was found injured near the intersection of West 5th Street and Melson Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  Someone called 911 when they discovered her.

JSO did not release her identity, but said she was in her late 30s and is in life-threatening condition.

"Right now we are trying to piece together what happened but we're leaning towards it may be a hit-and-run crash.  We're asking anyone who knows anything to come forward," said Detective Brian Blaquiere with JSO.
