JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating an attempted rape of a woman early Thursday morning outside Fire Station 52 at 6130 Collins Road.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report, the victim was leaving the station about 12:45 a.m. when she was attacked.
Police said the fire station went on alert when the 911 call came in and firefighters found the victim outside the kitchen door. She was treated at UF Health Jacksonville for a puncture wound to her side and cuts on her legs.
Officers said attacker fled and no description was provided.
A Jacksonville Fire-Rescue spokesman said the victim was believed to be a college student, but referred all other questions to JSO as it is a criminal investigation.
News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst, Gil Smith said the incident should act as a lesson to people about the dangers of walking alone at night.
"When you're in a situation like that," said Smith. "Feel Free just to ask someone, could you walk me to my car. If there's ladies there then make it two of them, to walk to their car. Then they can walk back together. Late at night it's always best to get someone to go with you if someone is there."
