Main Street bridge open to traffic following repairs, maintenance

Bridge was closed for nights, weekends since last January

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There are no more detours at the Main Street bridge, as it is now fully open to traffic.

The bridge has been undergoing repairs and maintenance since last January. While the work was being done, the bridge was mostly closed nights and weekends.

"We've repaired some things that needed to be repaired on there and in the future we're still going to have to do some things to maintain it," said Ron Tittle, Florida Department of Transportation spokesperson. "But it's not like we're having to close it down for a lengthy project at this point in time."

The construction project included renewing sidewalks and doing some electrical work. FDOT said there is still have about $400 million worth of projects this year. Next year, they're going to do about $800 million worth.
