Man, 23, convicted of robbery at ATM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old Jacksonville man was found guilty this week of one count of armed robbery.

In February, the victim was at a VyStar Credit Union ATM and had just completed a transaction when Stephen Hawkins approached him in the parking lot.

Hawkins pointed a gun at the man, who then began to run away, prosecutors said.

They said Hawkins shot at the victim and chased him down the street. He then held the victim at gunpoint while robbing him of his cash and ATM card.

Hawkins now faces 20 years to life in prison under the 10-20-Life law. He will be sentenced the week of Dec. 29.
