Man, 39, convicted of assaulting woman with knife

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 39-year-old Jacksonville man was found guilty Friday afternoon of one count of false imprisonment, one count of felony battery and one count of aggravated assault.

In September 2012, Richard Washington became angry with a woman after looking through her cellphone. Washington and the woman had been living together for three months.

During this incident, Washington repeatedly punched the woman in the face and shoved her to the ground, prosecutors said. He then grabbed a steak knife, held it to the victim's throat and threatened to kill her, prosecutors said.

The victim eventually managed to break away from Washington and contact police.

Washington now faces up to 30 years in prison. He will be sentenced Jan. 22.
