Police said they were called to the elderly man's home on Post Street in Riverside back in March 2014 and found Hicks on top of him. They said he was covered in blood.

The investigation revealed Hicks knocked on the man's door and asked to use the restroom. Once he opened the door, Hicks forced his way inside and struck him in the face with a broken piece of asphalt, prosecutors said.

When the man fell to the ground, Hicks got on top of him and continued to beat him and demand money.

A neighbor heard the commotion and called police.

Hicks has seven prior felony convictions. He now faces 30 years in prison as a Habitual Felony Offender.

Hicks will be sentenced the week of December 7.
