JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Death row inmate Alan Wade's new lawyer on Monday asked the Florida Supreme Court to grant the convict a new trial in the 2005 murders of Carol and Reggie Sumner.
The couple was kidnapped from their St. Nicholas home, forced them to give up their credit cards and ATM code, then buried alive in Charlton County in July 2005.

Wade -- one of four defendants in the case -- was convicted of first-degree murder and received the death penalty. Michael Jackson and Tiffany Cole were also also convicted and sentenced to death. Bruce Nixon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.
During the trial, Wade's attorneys argued he wasn't involved until after the killings. They claim that Nixon, the prosecutor's star witness, lied about the others' involvement to get himself a plea deal.
According to published reports, attorney Ann Finnell argued to the high court that Wade's defense team was ineffective and unprepared for trial.
