Man crashes into police cruiser, arrested for DUI, police said

Refused breath test, tried to leave

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After crashing into a Gainesville Police Department marked patrol car, a man in Gainesville was arrested for DUI, according to police.

Police said Samuel Mitchell, 34, showed obvious signs of impairment, and performed poorly on field sobriety exercises, after which he was arrested. While being given a breath test at the jailhouse, Mitchell abruptly stood up and began walking out of the room at the jail.

He ignored commands to stop and be seated and, police said, they forced him to the ground to prevent him from fleeing.

Mitchell refused to provide a breath sample.
