Man, 30, dies after being hit by car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 30-year-old Jacksonville man died from his injuries after being hit by a car late Tuesday afternoon on the Westside.

Jacksonville police said a vehicle was stopped for a red light facing west on Old Roosevelt Boulevard at the intersection of McDuff Avenue about 4:40 p.m. The light turned green and several cars in front of the vehicle proceeded into the intersection.

The vehicle proceeded through the intersection, and as it got to the west side of the intersection, a pedestrian, Jan Chislon Jr., stepped off of the curb and into the vehicle's lane, police said.

The vehicle's driver saw Chislon at the last moment and swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid him, police said.

The right front corner of the vehicle struck Chislon, knocking him into the windshield and then to the ground.

Chislon was takent to a hospital, where he died.

Police said their investigation is ongoing, but charges are not anticipated.
