Man dies after industrial accident in St. Johns County

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 64-year-old man died Thursday night from injuries he suffered in an industrial accident in St. Johns County.

James William Putnam was taken to Baptist Medical Center South with life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon after the long bed dump truck he was driving tipped over while he was backing it up.

Deputies said they were called to a concrete plant in the 400 block of Industry Place in St. Augustine at about 3 p.m.

Deputies said Putnam, who worked for Jax DirtWorks, was trying to empty rocks out of the truck when it tipped over, causing Putnam to suffer severe head trauma.

He later died at the hospital.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
