FHP: Wrong-way driver collides with semi, dies

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – A man died after his vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer late Monday night on U.S. 301 in Bradford County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Highway 301 southbound, just north of Northeast 185th Street.

Joshua Odom, 24, of Fort Myers, was driving a Nissan Altima north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 301 toward the big rig.

Troopers said 60-year-old Jerry Foust Sr. was driving a CasCadia Freightliner south in the left lane when he saw the Nissan traveling in the wrong direction.

The semi tried to swerve out of the way but the Nissan hit the left back end of the semi.

According to FHP Odom died from the crash. Foust was unharmed and was able to pull the semi over to the side of the road until troopers arrived.

FHP is investigating if alcohol was involved in the crash. No charges are pending.
