In May 2012, Meekins and 28-year-old Rodney Stone were involved in a drug deal when Meekins pulled a gun on Stone and shot him twice in the head, authorities said.

Meekins then drove the car with Stone in the passenger seat until crashing it at the corner of Phillips Highway and Olevia Street, according to state attorneys. Meekins climbed out of the wrecked vehicle, got into a truck and fled the scene.
