He was convicted of killing 28-year-old Rodney Stone.

In May 2012, Meekins and Stone were involved in a drug deal when Meekins pulled a gun on Stone and shot him twice in the head, prosecutors said. They said Meekins then drove the car with Stone in the passenger seat until crashing it at the corner of Philips Highway and Olevia Street.

Meekins climbed out of the wrecked vehicle, got into a truck and fled the scene, prosecutors said.

Shortly after, officers spotted the getaway vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Inside, they found the gun that was used to kill Stone, as well as the victim's blood on Meekins, prosecutors said.
