Man gets life in prison for stabbing, robbing victim of $17

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of the violent stabbing and robbery of a Jacksonville cab driver in 2014 was sentenced Friday to life in prison. 

According to police, 56-year-old Kenneth Karleston Newsome hopped into a cab with another man in June of last year.

While the cab driver was driving, Newsome asked the driver to pull over, then stabbed him in the neck with two different knives and stole $17 from him.

The victim was eventually able to jump out of the cab and run for help as Newsome fled the scene.

Newsome was given life in prison for first-degree attempted murder with a weapon. He was also sentenced to 40 years for one count of kidnapping, and another 40 years for one count of armed robbery.
