In May 2011, Barnett and two co-defendants, Rasean Vann and Chequial Williams, planned to meet McFaline so they could rob him, prosecutors said. When McFaline met with them in the parking lot of Grassy Ponds apartment complex, Barnett got out of his car and walked up to the victim, who was sitting in another vehicle, prosecutors said.

After Barnett tried to rob McFaline, he shot him seven times, prosecutors said. They said Barnett and the two co-defendants then fled the area.

McFaline drove away from the scene and was later found dead in his vehicle.

Both co-defendants have pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. They are currently waiting to be sentenced.

Barnett faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Dec. 19.
