PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – A 60-year-old lawn care worker was hospitalized Monday after being repeatedly stung by attacking bees at Patrick Air Force Base, officials said.

The incident happened about noon, prompting Patrick Air Force Base firefighters, along with Brevard County Fire Rescue paramedics, to respond to the base's south gate to evaluate the badly stung man.

"He was cutting grass by the flight line and we don't know, but he may have walked up on something, maybe a hive on the ground," Brevard County Fire-Rescue District Chief Chris Disciascio told Florida Today.  "This is not something that we deal with every day. From what I understand, they said he was (stung) a lot, multiple stings."

Patrick firefighters arrived at the scene first and spotted the man sitting on the ground swarmed by bees. Firefighters hosed the bees away and treated the man before Brevard County paramedics arrived.

The man, who was conscious, was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne for further treatment. The unidentified man was listed in stable condition.
