Troopers said a 46-year-old man driving a Hyundai Elantra was traveling south on U.S. 1 in the right lane just north of Ranmart Way.

A Mack dump truck was traveling in front of the Hyundai. Troopers said its driver slowed in an attempt to make a right turn onto Ranmart Way from U.S. 1, and the driver of the Hyundai failed to see the truck slowing down and crashed into the back of the truck.

The two vehicles came to a stop, blocking the right southbound lane on U.S. 1.

The Hyundai driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to UF Health at Jacksonville, troopers said. The driver of the Mack dump truck was not injured.

The Hyundai driver was charged with careless driving, according to FHP's report.
