Man in custody in connection with unsolved murder

Kevin Robinson faces several charges but not murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man is in custody Wednesday for his connection with the death of Arnett Rollins, but not for his murder. Rollins’ fiancé wants to know why.

Kevin Robinson is in police custody for his connection to Rollins death, officials said. He’s charged with possession of firearms, tampering with evidence and stealing Rollins’ car during the time he was killed. Robinson has not, however, been charged with Rollins murder.

Rollins’ fiancé, Andi Zapata, is still very distraught over his sudden death. They were planning to get married soon because her father is dying from cancer. Now, more importantly, she said there are too many questions going unanswered about Rollin’s death.

“I got the call when I was in Texas,” Zapata said. “At first, I wasn’t sure that it was for real.”

Rollins’ body was found July 19 on Spring Hammock Road near Pumpkin Hill State Park, 30 miles from where he and Zapata lived.

Zapata told News4Jax that Rollins only knew Robinson for two months. Robinson was helping Rollins with a new shrimping business.

“He had been working on a boat Arnett would use for shrimping,” Zapata said. “He really, really trusted him. I didn’t know him well enough.”

Zapata reflected on everything they had in common, including being in the military and having a love for family.

“He left behind a lot of friends and family that loved him,” Zapata said.

The states attorney’s office said this is an on-going investigation, so they are not releasing a lot of information about Rollins’ case.

We looked into Kevin Robinson’s criminal history. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said he served a year in prison from 2004-2005 for grand theft and eluding police. He’s listed as habitual traffic offender, but has no prior arrests for violent crimes.
