JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After the State Attorney's Office and the Division of Insurance Fraud began an investigation into a series of staged car accidents in Duval County, 50-year-old Guillermo de la Vega has pleaded guilty to two counts of knowingly participating in an intentional motor vehicle crash and two counts of filing false insurance claims.
Police said that de la Vega helped organize and participated in fake car accidents, and then filed fraudulent Personal Injury Protection claims through the Arlington Rehabilitation Center, Inc.

According to officials, the clinic served as the location that provided fake treatment to staged accident victims for their non-existent injuries. When the clinic received the PIP claim money from the insurance company, de la Vega would pay off the people who participated in the fake crashes.
De la Vega was sentenced to six years in prison Monday for his involvement in the schemes.
