Man pleads guilty to 16 counts in child sex crime

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 38-year-old Jacksonville man pleaded guilty this week to eight counts of lewd or lascivious molestation, four counts of attempted sexual battery, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of sale, distribution or showing of obscene material to minors.

In 2011, police learned of a sexual history between Robert Hypes and three female victims. The investigation found that since 2005, Hypes inappropriately touched and forced sex with the victims, who are now 15 and 16 years old. He also showed the victims pornographic videos.

In a separate case, Hypes also pleaded guilty to nine counts of possession of photographs of sexual performance by child.

Hypes now faces life in prison. He will be sentenced the week of Jan. 13.
